On February 7, 2014 The Lego Movie came out. Even before it came out this movie was seen as a cheap cashbag both by critics and the general audience but, when it finally came to cinemas the whole world was shocked. The movie quickly became a hit, getting a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and even getting nominated for a Golden Globe. But now, 5 years later, does The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part have the same charm as the original. Long story short, yes.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part takes place 5 years after the events of the first movie. After the Duplo Invasion the citizens of Apocalypseburg (previously known as Bricksburg) became more tough, all except Emmet. But, after General Mayhem takes Emmet’s friends to Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, Emmet, along with new character Rex Dangervest must go to the Sistar system and stop Ourmomagedon. The story centers around Emmet becoming more tough and the real life kid (Finn) being nicer to his sister. With two themes in it’s story you might think one would overshadow each other, but they actually go hand in hand.

Emmet reflects Finn’s childhood innocence, while all the tougher characters reflect Finn growing up. They make him think that he has to get tougher, and he confused that with being more mature. Finn tries to become tougher, and throws that on to his younger sister. This story makes it easy for a lot of people to resonate with the theme.

Not everything is great in this movie however.Aside from Rex, the other characters don’t have the same charm as the ones from the original movie had.

But this is a small problem that doesn’t affect the overall quality of the movie which can be seen with it’s 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Overall, this is a hilarious and touching movie that everyone should watch.
